Just like most “idea people”, I start working on some projects and the ideas are just flowing. The air is thick with inspiration and crackling with creativity. I am doing 65 down the creative highway. Then, everything comes to a screeching halt. I hit a creative road block.

Nothing is happening. The ideas that were so abundant earlier have dissipated into oblivion. I am convinced there is a black hole that pops up and sucks all my creativity into a parallel universe. I am stuck, blocked, and I have deadline. The stress starts to build at this point and I can feel panic lurking around a dark corner.

I have to get the ideas moving again and soon. The source of my frustration is “trying to hard” or “trying to get it perfect”. Other sources are environmental for me. If my work space isn’t set up correctly, then forget it. Nothing is going to happen. Other times, there are so many other things on my mind that I just can’t focus. I write a “to do list” everything morning. That clears out the clutter in my mind. And if all else fails, I do something mindless and repetitive, like folding laundry, or paddle ball. It doesn’t take long and then road is clear. I am speeding along to my deadline with abandon!
